Thames River Walleye

Got out with my dad one day behind his place, and by myself the next day, both for a couple hours each time. Just a couple suckers the first trip but managed one nice eater sized walleye on the second trip. Also caught a 6-7 pound catfish which got my heart racing as I felt those massive head shakes and thought it could be a huge walleye for a few seconds.

Hopefully getting into a few more this week as the water starts to clear up in this section of the river!

If you feel a fight than it’s not a walleye. Walleye feel like you’re bringing in a stick.
Nice catch though. I hope to get out on the grand soon.

The nerd and I got out on the Thames last weekend. No eyes this time out, but there's almost a month left to fish for em 👊👍🎣
Not even a pike there @Extra Virgin ?? 🤔 88182C99-5468-4CEC-8FBB-A7D15E4854B8.jpeg like when you and I had fished together in that same area? 🤔 Also, what’s that Nerd 🤓 doing in “my” fishing spot, 🤨 ( lol 😆), by that tree,E4E12078-2A7C-4FD7-9651-F010D7DDF4A2.jpeg where I had caught a carp 2DFAF7B5-DBD1-4515-83A0-9FFBC9076A17.jpeg there the last time, when you and I were fishing there together a couple of weeks ago?🤔😂😉👍🙂 You are right though, there is less than a month of the walleye season left, and tight lines & “Thumps Up” & Walleye’s ON!! 🎣🐟🐟🐟🐟🤞👍🙂

Few more nice ones from the Thames, couple from today and a two more from fishing two different days after work. All caught on 1/4 jigs, pink or chartreuse with 1.8-2.8 inch paddletails, white or perch coloured.

Beautiful photo’s with those walleye’s 👍👍 @Fishermanpaul and congratulations!! 👊👊 Excellent tip’s as well on what you were using to catch them with. I was out last Friday Thames River walleye fishing for a couple of hour’s,before the winter storm came that afternoon. Myself and others around me had no luck catching walleye’s that afternoon, but I am looking forward to be getting back out there walleye fishing again soon on the Thames River. Tight lines, and “See you on the Water.” 🎣🐟🐟👍🙂

If it makes you feel any better @Dmanwithnoname that river hates me too. I fished it in total for approx 22 years when you combine the years I fished it as a kid before we moved out west, and then the years I was able to stand on the side of the river before I got hurt and could no longer do that. In all those years that river has only allowed me 5 walleye and 1 smallie. The last time it gave me anything was 10 years ago, 1 walleye in the reservoir right by the boat launch at Fanshawe, and a smallie at the back of the reservoir near the safety village.

Now that I'm physically unable to stand there and try, I don't really miss it because I know what I'm missing...........a whole lot of nothin........so I'm ok with living vicariously through @Red Hering and his spring adventures fishing the Thames before the walleye season on the river closes which is coming soon enough.
