    Association Profile

The Long Point Bay Anglers’ Association was founded in June 1988 with a mandate to promote and protect the sport fishery of Long Point Bay and to represent the interests of our fellow Long Point Bay anglers. Our membership comes from across southern Ontario and neighbouring American states.

We are non-profit organization affiliated with the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH) and the Great Lakes Sports Fishing Council. These affiliations give us increased political support and we, in turn, add strength to these organizations.

To represent our members, we attend meetings, write letters and maintain contacts with a wide range of government agencies, industry groups and other fishing clubs. Many of our directors represent the Association at meetings, workshops and seminars organized by Ontario's Ministry of Natural Resources, the Lake Erie Management Plan and other angling clubs in Ontario and the U.S. Several also serve on other local organizations such as the Long Point Biosphere Reserve and the Long Point Conservation Authority, bringing the anglers' perspective to the table.

One of our continuing missions is make sure Ontario's Ministry of Natural Resources MNR maintains a balance between the needs of sport fisherman and the commercial fishing industry, both on Long Point Bay and across the lake.

We hold an annual meeting each year and keep in touch through BAYWATCH, our fishing news magazine which is published in the spring, summer and fall. We also hold a season-long, multi-species derby for fish taken on Long Point Bay during the legal angling season for each species. Trophies are presented to members who report catching the heaviest fish among Chinook Salmon, Coho Salmon, Lake Trout, Rainbow Trout, Walleye, Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass and Pike.
