We are planning our "first" trip to Burwell area.....we have only been to a few spots on Erie over the years. Can someone give us a bit of info like where to launch, direction and depth to target out on the lake...etc...

We are coming from Burlington....so I guess Port Bruce or Burwell would be good starting points...please let us know.

Thanks

Rob V

Rob....we will be chasing Walleye.... riggers, boards along with lead core....we are 1/2 way there....lures, depth and location to fish are the areas we need help with. Lots of time spend on Lake Ontario or fishing northern waters....not some much on Erie...we are fairly new to the this page as well.

you can go 15 or so miles out to 60 feet of water and troll with your leadcore anywhere from 30-50 down....spoons on leadcore are popular.

Awesome....do you recommend a certain port or launch....best time to launch to avoid the line-ups etc....

I would launch from Burwell. One thing you will find unlike launching at lake O is "most" of the guys fishing Erie are a great bunch of guys (and women....) and usually if there is a line up it will go fast for you and if you speak nicely to some of the guys you may even get some really good info at the launch!!
Good luck out there. I will be on the water Saturday morning on 68!

Guys ...thanks for the heads-up....I will listen you FinsnFeather on 68....our boat is tagged "The Billy Bee" (long story)....I will be with my trusted co-captain, my 15 yr old son, so it will be the two of us. We have a 19'Sylvan...We will be there Saturday or Monday a.m. (or both)...few more questions on Burwell....I have gleaned from the chats, there is a hill...a place called Bradfields....What is the street name or place called where the launch is (need to map it)....how early can we launch. Lastly I heard mention about the nets in certain places out in the lake, how concerned do we need to be and how would you avoid them....not sure on the “lay-out” of the nets are they in a long line, half circle, length, etc...any info would be helpful...

Hope to post our first catch out of Burwell by Tuesday....thanks again guys!

Billy Bee,
Take Hwy 3 to Tillsonburg or use the 401. Plank Road goes straight south to Port Burwell. When you enter Port Burwell you will see the bridge to your right. Bradfields is located under the bridge. Take a right over bridge then left. Should be signage. I'm a little rusty, last time I was at Bradfields was by boat. Watch the "channel" not much water, stay to the east of stakes, ask some of the locals or you will end up in the mud. The nets usually run north and south as there is a west to east current. They will be jugged: bleach bottles or coloured buoys, some have stakes with flags at each end. Commercial fishermen do not like anglers messing with their nets!!! Hope this helps, I'm sure others will be clearer about the directions. Cheers, Cookie
