Shooting tip for end of season

I've been at work all week( sewage treatment plant) and noticed ducks coming into our final settling tanks at the end of the day as per usual but also noticed them pairing up or in threesomes ( 1 hen 2 drakes) a lot of times. The drakes were always flying behind the hens. So my point is that if you are not exactly sure say due to fading light I would advise to not shoot the lead bird as it is most likely a hen. Which of course we need for breeding purposes later.
