Looking for some accomodations/ice fishing in the BOQ area. Might be going sometime in the middle of Febuary for a couple of days.
Never been there, so any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Jim

Best advice I can give you is take a half day or full day with a local guide.

Bay of Quinte is a dangerous body of water in the winter, the guides know where the safe ice is and are usually on top of the fish.

Well worth the money to learn from them as well.

The quinte fishing forum referenced above has names of some of the local guides.

Good luck with you adventure, I hope to make it for my annual trip in late February.

Cheers

Hey Jim I have been down there quite often in the winter & spring & I always stay at Sunset Farms. The people are great & will always put you on fish. Keith from NATS

check the Ontario out of Doors magazine for a guide/accomodation in the area.

I agree with fishermen 11. We have stayed at Sunset farms for 28 years in a row and have always had great service from this family business. They have housekeeping cabins there, and do have huts and transportation when the ice is safe.

Thanks Fisherman11 and Twodogs, it's going to be with Sunset Farms the week of Feb 19th for a few days
Can you tell me what is the depth there in the narrows you fish at.

Thanks
Jim

There is a green bouy out from Sunset Farms that marks a shoal coming out of 20-22' of water up to 4'. This area normally has some current action, so caution is needed. Mark will probably set you up in 15-20' of water. First and last light seem to be the best times. Good luck.

Thanks Twodogs! Looking forward to doing some fishing somewhere different.

Watch out for that Quinte outfitter that tells time by how much is left in his 40 ouncer :D. Brings back fond memories of his staff taking us out in -20 C weather wearing only gym socks on their hands. I've never been colder than I was on Quinte in the early 90's.

Hey Three Bouys---Are you still heading to Sunset Farms next week. Hoping to get down that way for some walleye.

Heading there on the 19th for the week. I'll post a daily report if we get lucky enough :D:D

Hey Jim
We went to Sunset Farms on Tuesday for 2 days. We fished off Wagers Farm, because it had the best ice for us old timers. The fishing was great, as we landed (and lost) quite a few nice walleye of varying sizes, and also caught some large silver bass. Most fish were caught on jigging Rapalas in either blue silver or fire tiger color. The key was to watch them hone in on your bait, and lift it slowly while twithcing it. They seemed to come up about 5 ' and then grab it. You need to make sure you have a minnow or 2 on your bait. The first 3 hours of daylight in the morning and the last 2 hours in the evening were best. Looking at the weather, you should have a good trip. Looking forward to your report.

How far of a walk out of Wagers? The better half and I are heading there next weekend with the portable hut.
Sounds like you guys had fun! Good luck to everyone else heading up that way for the last two weeks of the season.

We walked out about a kilometer north east of the lake entrance. This area is fairly flat, but we found out our best action was out in the channel. If you have electronics, you should be able to tell if the fish are in your area within 15-20 minutes. We punched holes a few times until we at least had fish below us. Good luck, and looking for a report.
