That last couple years have been a virtually a desert on A side. Hell, even B side, the big water is but a pond.

Anybody know if there is water on A side?

well, that's disappointing. Have you seen the boat channels from the parking lot to the numbered stakes....in particular, 1-20?

King Joe

yes i have, you can canoe the channel as of opening day. the water is very low
that cell seems to have a bit more water than some of the others

Here is an excerpt from the most recent Hullett newsletter which should help ...

Water Levels

Ducks Unlimited Canada have come into the Marsh and

assessed the need for water level changes in the early

summer. Drawdowns have occurred in the Mallard Pool and

Pintail Pool. The Pintail Pool does maintain some water;

however, the Mallard Pool is almost completely drained of

water. These drawdowns occur to encourage various natural

vegetation to germinate, produce seeds and create

additional vegetation. This process is beneficial to duck

populations in the future. We hope that these drawdowns

will not affect the fall waterfowl hunt, however we do

encourage hunters to recognize these water level

drawdowns and the possibility of the hunting stakes having

a changed habitat.

In addition to these drawdowns, Bluebill, Butterball and

Bluewing was raised by 30cm of water. It is important to also

recognize that this will also affect hunting stakes and

hunters should be prepared to access their stakes through a

variety of means.

SO, Thanksgiving Monday....did my annual cruise to the deer hunt area....followed by the cruise through Hullett to check conditions. Actually, for the first time in 3 years, there is water in the channel leading to 1-20 stakes. Enough to float a kayak (or canoe). I walked the dyke to check out #6 also...and at 6, water was to the trees and as far towards the south as I could see. Last 2 years, #6 was a field with a mud puddle in the middle.

NOW, anybody have any reports on how duck hunting has been on Hullett? Care to share stake numbers?
