Stomp's Guide to Fishing Long Point Bay
Purpose
I make no claim to being a fishing expert, but, I have some experience fishing the waters of Long Point Bay. Through this
page, I hope to let you know where and when you might find fish and describe some
techniques that may catch them. This information comes from both my personal experience
and, hopefully, from the submissions of vistors to this site. If you would like to pass on
a successful angling technique or a favourite fishing spot, please make an entry on the
Channel-68 Fishing Report page.
Fishing Overview
Long Point Bay is home to a wide variety of fish species. It is most famous for its
bass fishery, however, many other species such as walleye, perch , pike and crappie
inhabit these waters. This diversity is one reason why Long Point is a great place to
fish. It has much to offer both those who enjoy fishing in the shallow waters of the Inner
Bay and to the more adventurous souls who rig for salmon at depths exceeding 100 ft. off
the Point's tip.
It is often difficult to decide which species to go after. I usually decide to fish for
what the lake and weather offer on a given day. I spend windy days fishing for smallmouth
bass or perch in the shelter of the Inner Bay, waiting for calmer water to pursue trophy
walleye in the Outer Bay. In the winter, if the ice on the Bay is thin, I forego the perch
and head for the channels of the Point in pursuit of crappie. I would encourage you to
make safety your primary consideration whenever fishing on Long
Point Bay.
